Innovation as standard: 48 years of breaking new ground
Founded in the mid-1970s by Alan Ker, a chemical engineer with a commercial mindset, Orthene began life in a garage close to Alan’s home. Having developed a proprietary method to repurpose and refine used brake fluid, making it as good as new, Alan would become the first high-quality, private-label brake fluid provider to the industry sector.
For decades, Orthene has been at the forefront of brake fluid innovation. It has continuously pushed the limits of racing brake fluid, setting records for the highest boiling point, first at 320 degrees celsius, then at 330 degrees, and now at over 340 degrees.

The Orthene connection
Driven by cutting-edge science, Orthene is a global distribution business with clients that include many of the world’s major oil, lubricant, and braking brands. The business has become one of the most significant global producers of brake fluid. With this level of deep expertise, Orthene produces an estimated 65% of the world’s consumption of racing brake fluids through its private-label business.
While Orthene supplies such a large proportion of the market with its brake fluid, it’s relatively unknown due to white labelling its products. But when Lloyd Ker, Alan’s grandson, joined the business in 2016, he was ready to accelerate growth into new markets and elevate the Orthene brand.
Getting under the skin of the operation and finding himself in charge of production for a time, Lloyd identified an untapped opportunity. Shipping through multiple tiers of distribution, the value of the brake fluid was lost, both figuratively and literally.
Devising a revolutionary strategy to work directly with those using the product, Lloyd drew up plans for an entirely new Orthene-owned brand, complete with a game-changing product. Ultra-purified to eliminate almost all imperfections, Halo P1 is a significant shift in Orthene’s thinking and an opportunity to corner the high-performance market.
